Is it possible to restore archived mail in GMail? If so how?

(Note: The entire goal here is to automate the sending of sent mail back to Sent Mail, and to not send them to the Inbox.)

When you archive, it doesn't remove labels. And sent mail isn't a label, it's a search for from:you@gmail.com. Can you provide a use case, please? –  Richard Herron Jan 30 '11 at 3:56

@richardh: Wait, really?? I never really noticed that sent mail isn't its own label. But in that case, then that means that it makes no sense to "archive" sent mail, is that correct? –  Mehrdad Jan 30 '11 at 4:31

I think so. I guess it doesn't show in the search box like when you do a g l goto label search, but that's effectively what it is. What is your end goal? I use g t to see my sents, g l to pick a label, and g a to see all. And g i to go to the inbox. –  Richard Herron Jan 30 '11 at 16:27

@richardh: Oh, my end goal is to be able to reverse the archiving of my email if I need to, that's all. :) –  Mehrdad Jan 30 '11 at 18:24

If I understand correctly you want to know if it's possible to reverse mail you have archived in GMail?

GMail simply removes the inbox label when you archive something, therefore your not really losing it, your just having it removed from the general inbox. But the mail is still searchable and viewable in all mail. Therefore restoring it, technically is possible as it's just the inbox label removed.
