Schedule an email to send at a specific date

Question

How do you set up a service to schedule email sending?

I want to send a mail on a specific date and I have tried Gmail, Yahoo! and Zimbra.

I didn't find any options to send an email automatically (maybe this is to prevent spam).

Do you know of any options for scheduled mail sending?

There have been requests for this feature, see e.g. Gmail: "Send Later" Option, but Google doesn't support such a feature.

However this blog suggests using an extension called Boomerang.

You can also use fcron or anacron with msmtp on unix to send messages through GMail at a scheduled time. With these programs your computer doesn't have to be constantly running and you can avoid Boomerang having access to all of your email data. But it still requires a "switched on - machine" as you put it.
