Web Applications Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for power users of web applications. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm using basecamp and would really like to be notified of updates to our project. The only way basecamp does this through an RSS feed. Normally this would be fine as I use Google Reader frequently. But basecamp's RSS feed uses RSS authentication, which Google Reader does not support :(.

I'd love a webapp that will read basecamp's RSS feed supporting RSS authentication where I have the option of being notified of every update or occasionally I can switch to only being notified when there is an update (I then don't get another update notification until I check in with the reader).

Suggestions?

What is the difference between being notified for every update and being notified when there is an update? –  Andris Feb 18 '11 at 6:39

The difference is if in the middle of the night while I'm sleeping I get 1 email for the 4 updates that happened or 4 emails. –  at01 Feb 18 '11 at 11:25

Yahoo Pipes does not support protected feeds natively. You can use this specific pipe to accomplish such a task. Moreover I had some success (not sure they cover all the cases, but a try is worth) with xfruits and notify.me.

Interesting, was unaware of pipes. Thanks. Notify.me doesn't work with RSS authentication, just tried :(. –  at01 Feb 18 '11 at 11:39

You can use Yahoo Pipes to turn your RSS feed with authentication into email or another output format of your choice.
