I'm looking for a hosted web platform that will help me build and maintain an open source project. Things I feel are important to have:

  • Wiki area for documentation about our project where members can edit and visitors can view
  • Forum for visitors to ask questions and members can collaborate
  • Project management features like tasks to organize development
  • Blog where select members can post
  • FAQ (maybe not so important)

Would also be nice to maybe have integrations with GitHub, GoToWebinar (auto-setup and notifications of meetings?), diagram tool like Gliffy, etc.

The important thing is that everything should be publicly visible. What do the good, productive open source projects use to manage their efforts and website?

UPDATE: I'm happy to pay for a solution.

A primary candidate is SourceForge.

Update: As at01 points out, SourceForge doesn’t have an integrated wiki. I believe it used to have Wikispaces integrated but that was apparently removed in July 2009. SourceForge produces pretty ugly "websites" and doesn't have wiki editable pages members can contribute on. No blog either. – at01 Feb 20 '11 at 18:44

You have the famous SourceForge as already stated by Mike.
You also have Codeplex, hosted by Microsoft (no restrictions on languages or tools though).
You have java.net for Java world only (don't know in which language your project will be written).

Then, as you didn't state the solution has to be free, you also have the good Jira Studio from Atlassian.
CollabNet TeamForge is also a possibility (based of course on Subversion) as well as 37signals Basecamp.

You should now dig in all those sites (or just the free ones) and check them against your requirements.

edit: Removed two possibilities as, as OP cleverly noticed, they are not opened to the outside world but more focused on the project's team. May perhaps be possible to create an "anonymous" user with restrained privileges, but not handy, and don't know if feasible.

Basecamp doesn't allow for public-open sites, everything is password protected. TeamForge looks the same. Jira Studio, however, does look very interesting. A bit expensive, but I'll check it out. – at01 Feb 20 '11 at 23:29
