I would like to search for computer displays by filtering with the following criteria :

  • It's currently available to buy.
  • Its panel technology is anything but a TN (*VA, *IPS).
  • Its connections include X and Y (let's say DVI-D and HDMI).
  • Its size is between X and Y inches.
  • Its resolution is between X and Y pixels.

Note that the first two criteria are the most important to me. Most sites like CNET don't allow us to filter our monitor searches by truly useful criteria like those.

Do you know of any quality search engine or directory that allows such usefulness?

I'm tired of spending dozens of minutes on the websites of Dell, LG, Samsung, Viewsonic, Toshiba, Acer, Asus, etc., just to find that they don't offer what I'm searching for.

Newegg is my favorite, although they tend to go overboard with the variations (making it hard to search for the opposite reasons) – Xantec Mar 7 '11 at 22:53

If you are german speaker, prad.de is a community around monitors. They have a Forum and purchase advice. There also is an international website: http://www.prad.de/en

In the purchase advice they have around 30 parameters to choose. http://www.prad.de/guide/ausstattung_auswahl.html

Thank you, your site surfaced a few monitors the others didn't (although it didn't either find all the usual suspects), and I ended up finding almost everything I wanted in a monitor, so I ordered a monitor found there. – Daniel Jomphe Mar 8 '11 at 20:39

DigitalVersus has some very useful search filters, but with these caveats:

  1. It doesn't nearly list all monitors.
  2. It includes European models which are not available here.

That said, their reviews are very interesting.

If you live in the EU, Geizhals might interest for you. You can search and compare all kinds of hardware, not only monitors.

Retrevo will allow you to make such a search. Search options include:

  • List item
  • Price
  • Brand
  • Product Range
  • Viewable Size
  • Resolution
  • Response Time
  • Video Signal Interfaces
  • Image Contrast Ratio
  • Power Consumption
  • EPA Energy Star Compliant
  • Weight
  • Green Support (EPEAT)

Pricewatch.com and newegg.com have the best filtering interfaces I've found yet.
