Web Applications Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for power users of web applications. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a client who needs to send me some files. Now I'm looking for an app or something i can install on my own server so they can upload it.

The most important thing is that it's easy to use, simple drag and drop would be the king. And something more 'secure' and control than an megaupload or rapidshare.

  • Sendoid.com offers a free -secured- alternative to a server application to install.
Your client just have to click the big green button to select his file to upload and keep his browser window opened while you are downloading the file.

    Sendoid is a peer-to-peer and browser-based service.
The in-browser sharing works by opening a 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encrypted pipe directly between the sending and receiving machines. Sendoid handles the connection to a peer introduction service, but all the data flows direct.

  • Letscrate.com for a simple drag and drop but not particularly secure (well, the file is suppressed after 30 minutes though).

We use http://www.yousendit.com.

Lets you control who it goes to, how many times it can be downloaded, when it expires, etc.

Try Dropbox. It's very easy, once its installed its a folder on your desktop, just move files into / out of a folder, share that folder with anyone and they will have the same folder on their desktop. Dropbox will sync it and even better keeps a backup. Its free for a small amount of space.

i have a dropbox but then the client has to install it and that is not simple enough :). And it's just a 1 or 2 time operation. – user9563 Mar 21 '11 at 21:26
They could upload through the web interface, but I guess thats not as simple either. – user9565 Mar 22 '11 at 13:15
