I am looking for a good self hosted podcasting web application.

I've used Wordpress (self hosted) in the past as a podcasting platform, and I've seen others using Drupal, but I am curious if there are possibly some other superior podcasting platforms that I am yet to discover. The main problem with Wordpress and Drupal is complexity, not that Wordpress is all that complex, but my hope is something a little more specialized might be faster and better suited to Podcasting.

  • I am looking for a web application that runs under LAMP ideally, but that is not an absolute requirement.
  • Open Source is another plus, but again not a requirement if it justifies the cost.

I realize this is a bit subjective. I am not asking for a knock down battle between podcasting platforms, but just a good one that is focused specifically on podcasting. Both Drupal and Wordpress are general purpose publishing web applications. Are there any good podcasting specific web applications?

Thanks in advance!

Without knowing what about Wordpress and Drupal made them a bad fit, then it'd be hard to recommend something for you. Need more specifics. –  spoulson Jul 6 '10 at 0:28

"The main problem with Wordpress and Drupal is complexity" - I think that's what makes them a bad fit... –  x3ja Jul 6 '10 at 1:19

Why? I don't think they're complex. You don't get much simpler than WordPress. –  spoulson Jul 6 '10 at 2:21

Wordpress is very simple, but it can get simpler. –  Jim McKeeth Jul 6 '10 at 18:32

Podcast Generator seems to meet your requirements... as long as the P in LAMP means PHP :)

Looks like what I was looking for. P for PHP is good enough for me. –  Jim McKeeth Jul 6 '10 at 18:49
