If I'm loking at a commit on GitHub (for example), how can I tell what branch that commit is associated with?

Your wish is their new feature

If the commit is not on the default branch, the indicator will show the branches which contain the commit. If the commit is part of an unmerged pull request, a link will be shown.

Once the commit makes it to the default branch, any tags that contain the commit will be shown, and the default branch will be the only branch listed.

Look at the top right corner above the commit, for the "Current branch" dropdown (see image): enter image description here

I don't see the "Current branch" dropdown at when I'm looking at a commit (see my example link). Do you? – Lorin Hochstein Oct 15 '11 at 1:09
Yes, I do. Tap the 'Commits' tab and you'll see it too. – Traveling Tech Guy Oct 15 '11 at 1:50
If I tap the "Commits" tab, it switches away from the current commit and gives me the list of most recent commits. I can then switch branches, but that doesn't tell me what branch was associated with the commit I was originally looking at. – Lorin Hochstein Oct 15 '11 at 2:21
