How do Google Plus Photos, and Picasa relate to each other? Are they different names for the same thing? Or different interfaces to the same photo albums?

http://picasaweb.google.com/ looks quite different than https://plus.google.com/${my account id}/photos, but they show the same photo albums, thus the question.

These are the services/products provided by Google, both are completely different, it is just that they are linked with your common Google ID which you can use for any Google services: Google Docs, Translate, Blogger, Orkut, etc. To see more Click Here. So the photos you upload to Google Plus actually gets saved in Picasa. In short your account is linked with different Google services.

So is it fair to say these are two separate apps, that interact with the same image store? – Flimzy Oct 17 '11 at 6:15
Yes, they are completely two separate Google services, Google Plus is social networking, and Picasa is an image uploading service, they are just inter linked. You can use any Google service like YouTube, Orkut etc with your single Google ID. – Random Guy Oct 17 '11 at 6:19

Thank you for the explanation. I understand that you can use many apps with a single sign-on... it was the images from one service showing up in the other that was throwing me off. – Flimzy Oct 17 '11 at 6:20
Ya, you got it right & you welcome :) – Random Guy Oct 17 '11 at 6:22

Rumor is that Picasa is to be shortly renamed to Google Photos. Whether it's also merged to the Photo app used by Google+ remains to be seen. – Al Everett Oct 17 '11 at 13:43

Picasa->Google Photos

Google Photos = Google+ Photos

It's all part of Google's cloud desktop platform plans.

Can you be a little more elobrate? – user221287 May 5 '12 at 4:29

Above answers are wrong as of today, 5/4/12. I uploaded an album to Google+, and it's not showing up in Picasa, no matter what I do.

Google+ Photos is Picasa; there is no seperate Picasa existing as of now. – user221287 May 5 '12 at 4:28

Except Google+ Photos and Picasa Web have two different URLs, and two very different UIs. – Stefan Lasiewski May 15 '12 at 21:09
If you have an existing picasaweb account, you will be prompted to 'upgrade' to g+ Photos. This seems to be one way process. If you don't already have a picasaweb account, you only have the option of opening a g+ photos account. – pelms Mar 6 at 13:26
