How do I delete an extra account I created accidentally and have no idea what the password is?

A while back while trying to reactivate my account I inadvertently created a second account. I only became aware of this problem when my friends noticed I had two accounts.

I want to delete the unwanted account but I can't access it because I don't know the password that was used.

Try "Forgot your password?" on the login page. –  mark4o Dec 17 '11 at 5:02

  1. Go to the profile
  2. Select Report/Block
  3. Choose "This is my old account"
  4. Select "I want to close this account"

You should get a message "The reported timeline will be deactivated after a review."

Your best bet is to follow Facebook's advice in its FAQ. FB recommends that you:

We recommend downloading the information you've added to the account you don't want to keep. Then, add the account you're keeping as an admin for any Groups or Pages you manage.

Once you've moved all of your info onto a single account, please delete your duplicate account.

In short:

  1. Preserve any info in the account you want to delete
  2. Deactivate your account - follow the instructions in this Facebook FAQ.

How does this help if the OP has forgotten the password for the second account? –  ChrisF Jan 18 '12 at 22:24

@ChrisF, don't think that's what the OP asked originally. Question's been edited since this answer... –  JW8 Jan 18 '12 at 23:11

The question always mentioned not knowing the password (unless they edited it within 5 minutes of posting) –  ChrisF Jan 18 '12 at 23:13
