Web Applications Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for power users of web applications. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I had a jabber account provided by Google Apps, but then I deleted the service and recreated it on Dreamhost.

I can log in, add, send and receive messages from my old contacts, but I'm invisible to them, although they are not to me. This only happens with my old account, and not with a dummy one I created.

Any advice on how to fix that would be appreciated!

You are running a jabber server hosted at Dreamhost? Have you set up the required s2s DNS records needed? – Paul Feb 1 '12 at 4:17
I`ve just set them, and now I can see my old contacts, but they can`t see me. It seems to be due to the fact that I was already in their lists, as this problem does not occur with new jabber accounts. – konr Feb 1 '12 at 5:22
It may take a while. Their servers would have been getting negative DNS responses to the SRV records and have a negative TTL that must expire before they will retry. – Paul Feb 1 '12 at 5:43
