I am currently investigating enterprise social media tools that we can potentially use either with SharePoint 2010 or instead of it to create our intranet. Confluence is one of the tools I am looking at. It seems to have strong wiki functionality, but does it also offer other social media functionality such as, Communities, activity streams, blogging, micro blogging, Q&A, Ideation, rating, sharing, following etc? I am interested in anyone's experience or knowledge on this subject.

Debbie, We are currently involved in a lot of Enterprise Social Network evaluations and have put together some thoughts in a blog post - Enterprise Social Networks – 5 Roads to Failure http://igo2group.com/blog/enterprise-social-networks-5-roads-to-failure/ It doesn't talk about the products, but more about broader strategy. Happy to discuss - send us an email. Michael |

I'll start off by admitting that I've worked with Confluence wikis in the past but my experience with it is somewhat limited. Also, in the interests of full disclosure, I work for Telligent as a product specialist, so my reply will naturally be Telligent-centric. :) We've integrated with Confluence (a very good wiki application, by the way) for our customers at Telligent in the past. That's really at the core of what we do. Telligent Evolution is a platform that can stand alone or integrate with existing investments, including SharePoint, to leverage the strength of Telligent's social capabilities with best-in-class document management, CRM, content management systems, etc. I'd be happy to discuss this with you further if you want to find out more about our SharePoint Connector or other integration points. |
