The site Hearblog has (paid?) narrators read blogs to audio files which you can play online or download as mp3 files, no sign up necessary.
Does anyone know of a site like this for the French language?

I think the problem is a business model. The hearablog itself recently changed the way it works. It is nice to provide a service, but even with large number of eyeballs (well, earpieces), the monetization is a difficult thing.
One way I could see this being a business (maybe this should move to onstartup SE) is if somebody has to figure out a lot of technical/human infrastructure on getting this to work. For example, if it is not just random blogs that are being delivered but French WikiNews and it would get sent off to distributed professional readers and put on the website with remarkably short turn around.
Then, with that infrastructure established and cost model proved, one may be able to get sponsored by the Académie française to continue doing that, or maybe other news sources.
