Web Applications Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for power users of web applications. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm using Google Groups for Business (new "/forum" style released this week but same results as old) on an Apps domain. For an example use case, imagine an HR team dealing with enquiries from employees.

Requirements:

  1. Anyone in the org (employees) can post questions to the group via email.
  2. Employees shouldn't see each other's questions (they are not members of the group).
  3. HR team members work from the groups web interface and provide answers that are i) emailed to the employee and ii) kept as replies in the group.

My question is: How do I reply (3i) and keep a copy in the group (3ii) at the same time?

What I've tried (in new groups):

  • When I choose "Reply to author" it goes to the original poster but not to the group for archive and there's no option to "Add Cc".
  • When I choose "Post Reply" it goes to the group but not to the original poster and if I "Add Cc" as a workaround then I don't have access to the original poster's email address (Keep email addresses private? is set to NO) and to cc is counter intuitive and prone to forgetting anyway.

you should check the new functionalities, like using the group as a distribution list, a shared inbox, etc. There are LOTS of permissions and configurations that you should take a look at. ON the other hand I use (or I'm trying to) the groups in a very similar way that you and it is not working the way I need... – elunicotomas Jul 16 '12 at 20:38
Yes @elunicotomas I am aware of the new features and have been keeping up to date with this during the last months. As you noted, the specific reply and keep a copy in the group is still not (yet) available. – Peter Herrmann Jul 17 '12 at 4:35
Exactly. And the emails sent from the group, to the group goes to SPAM in the group (not SPAM, they are pending for review, and they will not be posted until you approve them), that is what has happened to us, hope it helps! – elunicotomas Jul 17 '12 at 15:22
