I have recently bought a copy of Code Complete by Steve McConnell on the Kindle. However, I don't actually own a Kindle reader. I'm using apps on different platforms.
I read it either on an iPod Touch, an iPad or a PC (depending on circumstances). What I've noticed is that the formatting of the text seems to vary by version. The image attached shows how the iPad version (which is newer) does a worse job (in my opinion!) of rendering text of the same book, compared to the Kindle for PC (Version: 1.9.1 (38398) Last Updated: 6/11/2012 4:13PM) on Windows 7 Pro SP1 (32-bit version). Amazon offers to refund me my purchase, which leaves me with no eBook. That's not so hot an option. I'm trying to understand where the problem is. Is Code Complete formatted improperly (some old format that is no longer supported), or is the newer version of the Kindle in the iPad just doing a bad job of rendering the text? Hard to believe that the latest iPad version of the Kindle breaks something as simple as formatting.
The Kindle Cloud Reader (Chrome app) version is comparable to (as bad as) the iPad rendering.
