I posted this post this morning. Now, I'm seeing two seemingly incompatible sets of statistics about the post.

On the post itself in the timeline, I see this: enter image description here

On the insights page for that post, I see this: enter image description here

The "Talking About This" details pie chart, says there have been:

I don't understand why the Shares are greater on Timeline but Likes are greater in Insights. If it were all one way or the other, I'd infer that one set of stats is counting the "Viral" shares/likes (as written about here) and the other is just tracking the initial post, but that seems impossible based on what I'm seeing.

Can anybody tell me what's going on and/or point me to a good resource that shows what these metrics really mean?

Facebook does a lot of caching when it comes to data on pages. I've seen variances that swung both ways for likes/shares/comments between the actual post & insights. The issue is valid if you're still seeing the variance after 24 hours. Their real-time data is flaky. – Dez Jul 18 '12 at 21:14
