At my work place, Netflix is not allowed and yet it keeps being used. I need to know how to block it. How can I do this?

You can redirect a host name to the loopback address of the system by modifying the hosts file. Such a solution would require access to all machines within your workplace (are all the computers under the business' control?). To prevent the users from removing your modifications, you would also need to set the appropriate permissions on the file so that they are unable to modify it. As it's quite possible that employees are bringing their laptops into work, I will also suggest another solution - you could have a scout around in the control panel of the router to see if there are any options for blocking sites. You must also be wary that determined or bored employees are likely to attempt to circumvent the restrictions you put in place by using proxy servers. |
