I've had this bug for a while now where the audio in Youtube videos would not play whatsoever in Chrome for Mac. The same goes for Vimeo as well. The only fix I've come across is to quit Chrome, which almost always freezes, which I then have to force quit. Upon relaunching Chrome, Youtube audio works again.
