Are there any WWW based translation memory systems? I'm not talking about social translating but translation memory like WordFast or Trados.

would you please clarify your question a bit? It is not clear what a "translation memory system" is actually (and I couldn't find that out by googling your examples). – neo Jul 15 '10 at 13:51

It could be this: "A translation memory, or TM, is a database that stores so-called "segments", which can be sentences or sentence-like units (headings, titles or elements in a list), that have been previously translated. A translation-memory system stores the words, phrases and paragraphs that have already been translated and aid human translators. @Kinopiko Yes, even with an explanation I can't give you some suggestion. But an explanation helps people to Google this question once it has an decent answer. These people might know what they want, but do not know that it is actually called translation memory. And it's the same with helpers. Some may use such a site without actually knowing that there is such a term for it. – neo Jul 15 '10 at 14:24

@Kinopiko Then don't answer my comments (you don't need to, and I don't expect you or someone else to do). What "email" means is general knowledge. Even my grandmother who didn't use a computer in here life, knows what it is. If you can use this site, some can assume that you know what an email is. Oh, and if you want to know: I used such kind of software before (ok, I used it for something different, but it was intended for use by translators). Nonetheless I didn't know what an translation memory was. And once again: If you don't see a good thing in answering such a question then don't do. – neo Jul 15 '10 at 15:15

Google's "Translation Toolkit" offers such a service:

A translation memory (TM) is a database of human translations. As you translate new sentences, we automatically search all available translation memories for previous translations similar to your new sentence. If such sentences exist, we rank and then show them to you. Comparing your translation to previous human translations improves consistency and saves you time: you can reuse previous translations or adjust them to create new, more contextually appropriate translations. When you finish translating documents in Google Translator Toolkit, we save your translations to a translation memory so you or other translators can avoid duplicating work.
