Web Applications Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for power users of web applications. It's 100% free, no registration required.

For example, if I wanted to create a note about gifts to purchase for others, and then had a note for one of the people on those list, could I link the notes between each other?

There's no way to link to notes that will consistently work on all the clients. It's one of the most requested features, and it is "definitely planned" by the developers. [source]

There's a hack to doing it on the Mac by using the exploit of spotlight, however this will only work on the same Mac. As well as linking to notes using the web client, however this will force the notes to be opened up in a browser.

This answer is outdated. See answer below about new feature added to Evernote in June 2011: webapps.stackexchange.com/a/19754/17203 –  Shannon Wagner Jun 13 '12 at 19:47

This feature was introduced by Evernote for Windows and Mac users in June 2011. More information in this Evernote blog post.

insert an URL to the note you want to link to.

That may work OK if you use Evernote via Web, but will have problems when using Evernote client in offline mode (which is for me main reason for using Evernote). –  Miro A. Jul 18 '10 at 18:32

This feature is available in Evernote for Mac 2.2 Beta 1, and Evernote for Windos 4.4 Prerelease (and, assumably, in future standard releases).

"Copy Note Link" appears under the Edit menu. It is also available in the right-click menu on notes. This link can be pasted into Evernote or another application.

If pasted in a plain text document, you can see the link is of the format: evernote:///view/...

There is a way to link notes, but it's a bit of a workaround. Create some kind of random generated string and insert the same string into all the notes you want to link together. Then use Evernote's search function to identify all the notes linked by a specific string.
