Web Applications Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for power users of web applications. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I would like to create a very simple personal webpage. I'm no designer, so I would like to use some tool (possibly a web app, possibly free) that lets you format a page using some predefined (and possibly modifiable), modern CSS templates.

I don't own a domain and I don't want to; I need my page to appear at an existing address like some.company.com/myname. I can upload content there (in fact, I already have an old-looking page there, made using the defunct Google Page Creator) but I cannot install CMSs or anything. So no Wordpress, but also no Google Sites, Weebly etc.

Do you have any recommendations?

And when you do a web search for "free web hosting" what do you find? There are dozens, if not hundreds, of companies offering this stuff. Any answers you get here will all be equally valid and, thus, not useful at all. This is not what Stack Exchange sites are good for. – Al Everett Jan 31 at 18:45
Thanks for your comment. In fact, I don't need any hosting: I just need a simple tool to create a HTML+CSS page, that I can then upload to some place I can already access. All the services I found let you create a website and then publish it at their site or at your domain. I could probably use one of those services, then use the "show source" feature of my browser to create uploadable html pages and to locate the CSS sheet… but I was wondering if there is an easier way. I'll keep my question here for a bit. – fudo Jan 31 at 20:05
Google Sites might help you out - basic website creation and hosting, connected to your Google account. Since I'm suggesting a product rather than helping troubleshoot, I should say that I work at Google, but not on the Sites team :) – OnenOnlyWalter Jan 31 at 20:55
thanks @OnenOnlyWalter. I already know (and in fact, use) Google Sites. The reason why I don't think it suits my needs here is that I just want to create a simple page and then upload it to a place which is only reachable by a specific second-level address, i.e., something like www.company.com/user. I neither own nor want a domain, and I don't care about Google Sites' hosting either. – fudo Feb 1 at 1:17
