Web Applications Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for power users of web applications. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I was trying to log into my Gmail account when it said “incorrect password” and later said “password was changed”—which I did not do—, then asked me to do the verification. The strange thing about it is that the phone number and security question they asked are not any that I have set up and I am also using the same computer and internet connection I use every day.

Please help me understand what is going on and what can I do about it. I have tried all the recovery options, and tried paying a dollar as well to regain access to my account, but all my efforts were in vain for the last month and a half.

Please help me with a solution, as it is my oldest account and all my friends are connected with it.

I'm sorry you've found yourself in this situation. There's not much we can do for you except to point you to the proper places in Google Support. The place to start is probably Compromised Gmail account. Follow the instructions there to (hopefully) recover your account. – Al Everett Feb 4 at 18:42
