Word docs on password-protected site viewed via Google Docs displays markup of login page

Question

I often have to look at Word documents on my university's student portal, which is behind a login page. If I try to view a Word document using Google Docs in Chrome, the HTML markup of the login page is displayed in Google Docs.

Is there a way for Google Docs to be 'passed' the document, rather than trying to access it itself?
