I have configured gmail to use Plain Text when composing emails, this works as it should when im in gmail. However when clicking a mailto link on a web-page it always opens the Rich formatting editor.

Does anyone know how to make it stop doing that?

Can you add more of a description of what you are trying to achieve. Adding the why as wel would help use find an alternative solution if there is one. – MrHinsh Aug 16 '10 at 22:25
@MrHinsh - I want it to open the mail composer in Plain Text mode, not Rich formatting. Now I have to click "Plain Text" then a popup asks me if I really want to do that since I will loose some formatting. (Silly question as there is no text at all) – Nifle Aug 17 '10 at 16:55

When you switch to Plain Text composition the choice sticks until you either log out or clear your cookies.

It is likely that Gmail isn’t your default mail handler. Leo Notenboom has a great article on how to change (I assume) your version of windows to default email handler to Gmail.

The info in the link is old and does not work in win7 (and it looks like IE7 and I don't use that even on my old XP-laptop) – Nifle Dec 13 '10 at 9:55
Oh and doing it manually using regedit did not work, it still opens the rich text window. – Nifle Dec 13 '10 at 10:00
