I have stumbled upon this web site:

Winner of the day on a css portal. When you look at the actual page - it is a custom map, like those of Google Maps.

What technology, client-side and server-side, poweres this site? If you don't know this one in particular, what platforms can provide infrastructure to facilitate creation of such custom maps?

This site uses Leaflet which is an open source JS Library for interactive maps.

Looks like they've combined it with jQuery, but you could just as easily use a different JS Framework like Angular or KnockOut.

You could probably get Google Maps, using their API, to do something similar with some kind of customized layer.
