What's a good and trustworthy website to buy tickets to events that are no longer available through the official organizer?

I.E.: I want to go to USOPEN men finals. Tixs are sold out, where can I buy tickets. Ebay is giving me nothing.

Have you tried a Craigslist posting ? –  phwd Aug 3 '10 at 21:10

The most dependable place I've used is StubHub. It's owned by eBay, and they insure your purchase to make sure the tickets come in time, and if the seller does not follow through, your money is returned to you.

The only downside is they charge a 10% fee on top of the listed ticket price when you purchase, so if the tickets are expensive, it could end up costing you more than you want.

It's safer and more guaranteed than buying from a scalper outside an event or buying tickets from someone on Craigslist.

There is no real trustworthy source for tickets once they are officially sold out.

It is important to remember that if you buy tickets from someone else, that transaction MAY invalidate the tickets (a common clause on ticket stubs is that they cannot be transferred).
