Web Applications Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for power users of web applications. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'am doing a research about how to make a custom search in a website, and the most common answer to me by Google was: Google Custom Search Engine, and yes, of course the words were closely related. Though this seems to be the right answer for now, I'm still looking for a solution that is somehow not using Google or any other APIs. What I'm trying to achieve is like this:

My question is, how am I going to do something like this? Do I need to store all the content of my website in a database that will the basis for my custom search engine?

Any ideas will be very much appreciated. Thanks.
