I am looking for a free or low cost web-based API to do address normalization/cleansing. For example, I would like to feed the API the following:
Tom Thumb Email: firstname.lastname@example.org Company: Tom's Bandaids Address 1: 24 Blabla Street Address 2: Address 3: City: Stamford State: CT Zip: 06902
and get back:
Tom Thumb Tom's Bandaids 24 Bla bla Street Stamford, CT 06902 email@example.com
Other versions might include a phone number, or possibly a zip+4 code, etc. In other words there is some variability to the input data.
An example of a commercial service that does this is Melissa Data's RightFielder API. From http://www.melissadata.com/dm/data-management-software/rightfielder.htm:
Put Jumbled, Disorganized Data into its Proper Fields
RightFielder gives you the control, power and flexibility to transform messy text data into correctly fielded information that can be used with database programs. No typing, no hassels, no delays.
RightFielder examines each field in a record to distinguish between name fields, titles, departments, companies, street addresses, cities, states, ZIP codes, and phone numbers. It then “right fields” the data – moving each line into the correct field using your predefined layout and field names.
RightFielder’s parsing logic can reorganize the contents of fields into new columns each with a single data type.
