Web Applications Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for power users of web applications. It's 100% free, no registration required.

In a previous post (Print an entire Facebook chat/message conversation thread) some users suggested the use of Facebook chat history manager to export Facebook history.

I decided to try.

I am using Firefox 26.0 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

I installed the Firefox plugin. This adds a voice in the Tools menu: "Facebook chat history manager". From what I understood from tutorials, first thing you need to do is creat an account. But when I click on "Create an account" I get the following JavaScript error:

Error happened when parsing data. Please update to latest version and try again later.

I opened the browser console (the one that opens with ctrl+shift+j) and the only JavaScript error, warnings or logs I found are these:

TypeError: this.sink is null utils.js:1598
Use of getPreventDefault() is deprecated. Use defaultPrevented instead. 8628f-2992f.js:2

Does someone know what went wrong? Is it possible to fix this? And if yes, how?

Did you tried after updating? –  Maximin Dec 30 '13 at 11:45
@Maximin: my problem is that I do not understand what I have to update... From the little I know you do not update javascript... And the version of Facebook chat History Manager is the latest (or at least, I downloaded it yesterday via the firefox add on download, so it should be the latest). –  Fabio Marroni Dec 30 '13 at 13:34
I've got the same problem. You're right that you don't update JavaScript, but you do update Java. Unfortunately, updating Java didn't help. Still get the error message. Was wondering if you have a solution yet that you can share. –  user57221 Jan 17 '14 at 22:53
It sounds to me like a bug in the plugin. You should probably contact the author. –  Al E. Jan 18 '14 at 4:56
@user57221. I also checked that I have an up-to-date java version. My solution was to use Facebook's 'Download your information' tool as suggested in the post Print an entire Facebook chat/message conversation thread. –  Fabio Marroni Jan 19 '14 at 11:45
