How can I create a checkbox-type function that works on the Android Google Drive app for a Google Spreadsheet?

I want to make a to-do list (groceries, trip prep, etc.) that the user can check "done" as simply as possible, preferably with just one touch.

I found how to create checkboxes as a Validation/DropDown option, but the created dropdowns do not show on my Android app view of the same spreadsheet.

Why not use Google Keep (Android app)? One of its options is to create checklists, and it syncs to Google Drive as well. A spreadsheet seems like overkill. –  Al E. Jan 24 at 4:00

The Google Tasks function, from within Gmail and the Calendar, can be of use as well. –  Jacob Jan Tuinstra Jan 24 at 8:41

Google Keep works fine for simpler, short lists. But cant make a unified/one-page grocery list with major sections or headers/subheaders (like PRODUCE, FROZEN, WINCO, COSTCO, etc). In addition to Grocery List, I use similarly formatted lists for my company Projects, Misc Buying, and other organizations/people that I can share with others. And, I keep my wife's and my grocery list, to do list, and several others in one google spreasheet with tabs so that she has a one-click icon on her desktops (PC, android) to get to our shared list. –  user57659 Jan 25 at 6:23

Those are great solutions for an alternative ToDo List. However I too would like to create a list of items in Google Sheets (Excel) and be abel to have a column of checkboxes next to them. Is this not doable? Seems strange since it's doable in Excel and Numbers. Any thoughts? –  user60298 Feb 10 at 17:16

If you'd rather use Google Sheets for lists, and you actually use the lists on your Drive app on your mobile device, I'd recommend using the Strike Through function to mark items off. It may work better for you. –  user64048 Mar 23 at 17:03
