I have created a Google account using a Microsoft email, Hotmail in particular. Let's say that this account is google_account@hotmail.com.

I also have a separate Gmail account, let's say it's gmailaccount@gmail.com.

I bought a new Android phone and I tried to add my Google account. When I do it asks me to add a new Gmail account. What I want to do is add my already existing Gmail account to my already existing Google account.

How can I do such thing?

This question came from our site for computer enthusiasts and power users.

If your asking if there is a way to merge the accounts thats not possible. Unless google_account@gmail.com exists you can't link the google_account@hotmail on an android without a mail app that supports Outlook.com – Ramhound Apr 2 '14 at 12:13

Android phones need a valid Google account to operate. It's also how your password can be reset, and how you purchase applications (though Google Play).

It is not possible for you to 'merge' your Hotmail Gmail and your Google Gmail Accounts. You need a valid Google account, not just a Gmail Account.

If you don't have a Google Account, you need to create one.

If you do (like I believe it says), then you just need to sign in with your Google Account.

To be fair if you have a Gmail email you have a Google Account. It has not been possible to have a Gmail email without a Google Account since Android was first released. – Ramhound Apr 2 '14 at 13:50
I have a google account(google_account@hotmail.com) but when I give that, it tells me to create a gmail account. It's not an error, because the google account already exists(I'm signing on google+ with my google_account@hotmail.com) – Thanos Apr 2 '14 at 14:58

Your gmail account is already a google account of it's own - it cannot just be added to another one.

If you want to merge them, then you need to work through the process of moving your content from your 2nd google account to your first one, and forwarding the 2nd email address to the first one.
