API to build GoogleStreet-like photo maps

Question

do you know if Google offers a public API to display pictures in a map as they do with Panoranio?

Just to be clear, I don't want to use Google Street, or publish my pictures anywhere in the internet, but just have blue dots as you can see in this map if you drag and drop the orange little guy.

EDIT: Here is a picture of what I would like to do:

a very lightweight way to show pictures on a map according to geotags. I'd like to get it with GoogleMap.

You may find Polymaps at least pointing the way. Also look at the CloudMade. A fair warning though, those sites seem to assume you are already a map/geo geek, even if they do provide the sources to their examples.

For Google Maps, their visualization library might be a good starting point:

(For Edit 2) For examples on how to combine display of too many points, see k-means example at Polymaps. The library they use is available separate, so you could probably reuse it with Google maps too.
