Web Applications Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for power users of web applications. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have an upstream project on github that I'd like to build for PPAs at Launchpad, and for this I need to import code that contains nested modules. This causes the import to fail as bazaar, the standard VCS used by most of Launchpad, does not support nested trees (the rough equivalent of submodules).

These modules are not needed for a PPA build, but it would be prohibitive to move the code that is needed to a different repository not containing submodules.

How may I work around this? I would prefer to not have manual pushes as I often work in IDEs with built-in git support, and automated tools will not be aware of the bazaar push requirement. also, please do not suggest hooks as a workaround, as git has no proper local post-push hook, and the IDE would fail on hooks.
