I am looking for a site that allows me to place comments to any web page and rate those comments, like http://news.ycombinator.com/ http://digg.com/ or http://www.reddit.com/ that work but seem quite intended for commenting news (not any older web page).

I would also be interested in a comments aggregator that allows me to see the comments placed under all such websites quickly from by browser.

Google Sidewiki isn't its own website, but it does allow you to add comments to the site you are viewing, view comments others have left, and rate the comments.

What is Sidewiki?

Google Sidewiki is a browser sidebar that enables you to contribute and read helpful information alongside any web page. It is available as a feature in Google Toolbar.

To get started, simply download the latest version of Google Toolbar and enable the Sidewiki button in the Toolbar Options menu. Or, install Sidewiki for Google Chrome.

There is another post around here (here it is: http://webapps.stackexchange.com/questions/5070/how-do-you-take-ownership-of-your-comments) regarding this topic.

The thing is that you can aggregate your comments only if the service used for commenting supports this feature. Moreover, the site where you want to leave the comment has to support the commenting service as well.

There is no way you can inject comments on any page unless the respective site supports an external commenting service (e.g.: Disqus). At list I'm not aware of any other way besides Google Sidewiki, but that's just half of the solution, since the comments are visible only for the Sidewiki users, and more important, they are not listed on the page.

Ownership? I didn't interpret the post that way. Hrm. Yes, Sidewiki is for only users that have the toolbar or extension. That isn't a hidden fact. So, why are comments not being listed on the page a bad thing? If I'm not a Sidewiki user I'm going to be confused by its comments appearing. – Rebecca Chernoff Aug 29 '10 at 9:10

Try the commenting tool at www.iscribbled.com.

The application is a JavaScript based widget that can be used for enabling real-time discussion for specific sections and regions of an article. The commenting tool shows a chat icons close to various sections of texts/images etc. The reader can click on the chat icon which expands the commenting window for that section. The reader can then either (a) read the comments or (b) provide his/her input in the discussion.

That is not what I am looking for as it would only allow me comment web page where the website owners have enabled this widget, instead of if any web page. – Eduardo Sep 4 '12 at 8:10
