Is there a good (preferably free) web application that allows you to draw ER and class diagrams like Microsoft's Visio?

I've just had a play with Gliffy, and whilst it's not a feature complete it's very easy to use! – Adam Pope Jul 2 '10 at 11:31

While not strictly a web app, I believe ArgoUML has a Java Web Start option.

LucidChart is a online Visio alternative where you can create ER diagrams, class diagrams, etc.

Recently, Lucidchart even added an import feature, which automatically generates a diagram an existing database. – Paul Draper Jan 20 '14 at 23:21

You can create ER Diagrams with SmartDraw.

Check out yUML it is 100% web-based, easy to use and produces nice UML diagrams!

It's not a webapp, but since it's very good you might want to take a look at it.

I've just started using PlantUML and it's perfect. It's not exactly like Visio, but I find it's actually better.

You should try http://creately.com - works well for all types of diagrams including UML and flowcharts

Additional online tools with this features are Diagramly and Cacoo, both are somewhat better translated than the other online tools.
