Online project management services

In our company we have a need for a full-featured project management tool like Microsoft Project (we are currently using MS Project 2003).

I am aware of free desktop-alternatives, but I would like to hear more about web-based alternatives, because our company is operating in different locations in different countries. Both free and commercial solutions are acceptable (but free are preferred).

I managed to find the following:

  • Gantter
  • Redmine
  • Smartsheet

I would appreciate any input from your experience that may help to decide between any of those, and all suggestions for all other alternatives.

For managing project and online discussion regarding a project, I suggest you to use Basecamp.

It is mainly used to collaborate and manage projects online.

It's quite different from MS Project, I personally like it, but it might take a while for everyone to adjust to it, and time is as they say "money". – Miljenko Barbir Oct 7 '10 at 11:09
