Amazon offers two different hosted database solutions: Amazon SimpleDb, a non-relational database, and Amazon RDS, a relational database. Couchdb is also a NoSQL database with a 100% RESTful interface. You can also bundle applications within the Couchdb package itaself and administer the database with the web-based console. Both Cloudant and IrisCouch offer a hosted version of Couchdb. |

If you're looking for something beyond database tables, like master-detail forms with a RESTful HTTP API. Take a look at Ragic You create forms like creating a spreadsheet form, and all forms comes with a RESTful HTTP API that returns the data in JSON. |

Take a look at http://blog.webservius.com/2010/09/14/introducing-amazon-simpledb-integration/ (solution that turns a SimpleDB table into a full-featured REST API complete with a developer signup page, XML and JSON support, etc) |

My company does a lot of work in the area of API integrations and small business automation, and I've been on the search for something similar. I've got four more services to add to the list. The first three allow you to create and host a database online, and they also make it reasonably easy to create webforms and online reports that hook up to the DBs. Infodome: Nice, clean interface. I don't have a huge amount of experience with any of these, but Infodome's user interface is the most pleasing to my eyes. Caspio: User interface looks like Microsoft Access. Seems pretty powerful. Probably a good choice for a system that non technical users can work with. Zoho Creator: I have heard this one's powerful and full-featured. It also allows some heavy customization via scripting. I don't really like the user interface, though. Intuit QuickBase: I haven't looked at this one closely, yet, but I imagine it's pretty powerful, and I know they have a full-featured API. From the makers of QuickBooks. |
