Web Applications Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for power users of web applications. It's 100% free, no registration required.

As I'm sure is the case with many others, I frequently have to walk users through various processes. Often the situation is complicated enough that it deserves visual guidance and/or complete desktop sharing. There are many options for installing software to do this, but it is often a burden for a user to install such software, especially if is for one time use. Are there any entirely web based applications for doing screen sharing and using remote desktop functionality?

I recommend Fogcreek Copilot. It's not quite completely browser based, but you don't need to install it. It's also free to use on weekends, so you can give it a shot to see if it'll work well for you.

+1 to this recommendation. It was built from the ground-up for "help your grandmother"-level ease of use. – BradC Jul 1 '10 at 18:15

Try using gomeetnow desktop screensharing service in order to conduct online presentations, sharing desktops, online meetings etc.

I haven't tried it myself but Google Chrome has an extension for remote desktop in the Chrome Web store - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chrome-remote-desktop/gbchcmhmhahfdphkhkmpfmihenigjmpp

TeamViewer gets my vote - it does require the person hosting the screen share to run an app, however they don't have to install anything (.dmg for OSX and .exe for Windows - I believe Linux is supported as well)

You can use the web-based client/viewer or download a client to your machine to view/control the remote user.

Super powerful, well implemented and free for non-commercial use. Even has a free iPhone client app!

Almost too good to be true.

I use a company called My Screen Share it is a new webinar company that is also completely web based. I got so sick of both myself and my participants having to download software to do the meetings... they shouldn't have to download a bunch of stuff to their computer when they are joining MY webinars!

It is super easy to use and gives you more bang for your buck. They offer a free trial and after that it's only about $25 a month. If you go to their homepage you can see tons of demos, features, and compare them to other companies.

I use LogMeIn. It is great, though you get bad video quality as others I think

I hated this product. It doesn't uninstall correctly. It leaves drivers and other crap on your system which are almost impossible to remove. Search your registry for LogMeIn after you uninstall it and you'll see what I mean. – Senseful Jul 1 '10 at 15:42

I would look into LiveLook. It's completely browser based, but it's not free.

I would use dimdim They offer a lot for the free account too!
