There are a few services which offer thumbnails for outgoing links.

I'm looking for a service which will archive a copy of a website snapshot.

Sometimes I'll find old blog posts full of outgoing links which doesn't work anymore, it would be nice to have a service kick in instead and show how that page looked when the author originally linked to it.

Are you looking for something that you can trigger to create the snapshot (ie, you find a useful blog post, and instead of simply bookmarking it, you trigger an archive)? Or are you looking for something to refer to when you find a blog post with a link that claims to solve your problem, but the link is dead? – pkaeding Oct 27 '10 at 22:47
When I write a blog post, I want a service that will allow me to snapshot my outgoing links, so my blog post has valid links (at least screen shots) 10 years from now – Yona Oct 28 '10 at 14:39

Not sure if this answers your questions completely because the links will still be dead. This site only takes a snapshot of the text. The images and links are simply copied. – schmoe76 Oct 27 '10 at 22:02
Interesting, but falls short of what I had in mind. I mostly want a hi-res picture of the site, in case the site closes, I'll still be able to see what I linked to. – Yona Oct 28 '10 at 14:44
There are several browser add-ons for taking website snapshots that offer off site hosting. Fireshot - screenshot-program.com/fireshot - works with Firefox and IE. Zotero - zotero.org - works with Firefox. And screenshot - addons.mozilla.org/af/firefox/addon/14922 - works with Firefox/. – schmoe76 Oct 29 '10 at 17:05

Try the Internet Archive Wayback Machine which has archived over 150 billion web pages from 1996 to a few months ago. Most sites if not all on the sites on the Web are archived at intervals.
