First, you have to go to https://www.google.com/accounts/ and enable multiple sign ins. Then, click on your account name in the top right. There should be a button saying "Sign in with another account...", which lets you do exactly what you're asking.

An easy way would be to open the second gmail tab using inPrivate browsing (Ctrl-Shift-P). This applies to IE9 only.
