I've only been programming for a couple of years, primarily in Java. The first "real" languages I learned were HTML, CSS, and PHP, though after making my website and my blog, I didn't really have any further reason to practice them. I try to create one by making fairly useless pages that just demonstrate a feature from one of them. I started learning Java a few months after I learned these languages. It wasn't terribly difficult to learn after having done the work I had in PHP, given that the languages are fairly similar. About a year after learning Java (yesterday as of typing this), I decided it was time I learned C++ as well. I had to sooner or later. It was a massive pain getting my IDE set up properly, but afterwards I was able to delve into some tutorials and make some programs. It's a really interesting language, but the syntax is vastly different from that of Java. It's going to take some getting used to.
