On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

My name is Rubén. Here is the link to my 2019 election questionnaire answers.

I think that all users that are able to vote are moderators and ♦ moderators have a great challenge to use their superpowers wisely. As a community one of our biggest challenges are to help new users to make a good enough on-topic first question and to follow the SE Q/A model (say thank you by accepting answering questions, post comments to their own questions' answers if they need clarification, etc.)

IMHO the most important "superpower" of a ♦ moderator is the first impression that they give to new users. Something that helps to give a good impression is to help them to understand the scope and the ropes of Web Applications.

I started on the SE network four years ago, then I found Web Applications, hopefully soon I will get the gold badge on . On WebApps I'm one of the most active users over the last years, both on the main site and Meta.

As a new ♦ moderator I will be eager to learn from others ♦ moderators as fast as I can and work together to keep the site in good health.

This election is over.
