On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

My name is Rubén. Here is the link to my 2020 election questionnaire answers.

My first language is Spanish. My English is far from being perfect but it has being good enough to participate here and other English online communities, for more than 10 years.

I think that all users that are able to vote are moderators and ♦ moderators have a great challenge to use their superpowers wisely. As a community one of our biggest challenges are to help new users to make a good enough on-topic first question and to follow the SE Q/A model (say thank you by accepting answering questions, post comments to their own questions' answers if they need clarification, etc.)

IMHO the most important "superpower" of a ♦ moderator is the first impression that they give to new users. Something that helps to give a good impression is to help them to understand the scope and the ropes of WebApps.

On WebApps I'm one of the most active users over the last years, both on the main site and Meta.

As a new ♦ moderator I will be eager to learn from others ♦ moderators as fast as I can and work together to keep the site in good health.

Hello, my name is Hydra and I am running for the 2020 Moderator Elections. Here is my answers to the election questionnaire.

Firstly, I would like to preface that I am not as active nor seasoned as Rubén is. I was an active contributor many many years ago, but my activity has since died down due to changing priorities. Nonetheless, I chose to run this time as I believe in Rubén's capabilities and I hope to avoid a repeat of the 2019 Moderator Elections, where there is a lack of people stepping up for moderators.

Nonetheless, for myself, I have always believed in moderators being the "janitors" of the community. This community has been extremely supportive and I thoroughly enjoyed myself during the years I was active here. I hope to bring back that same spirit and give back to the same community that has helped me over the years.

With great power comes great responsibility. I am not currently a moderator of any website on StackExchange, so there will be lots to learn. However, I hope to bring some of my experience being an administrator on some Wikipedia websites over to this community.

Thank you.

This election is over.
