In MS Word, I do a search for ^p

Is there a similar search string that I could use in Google Docs to find paragraph marks?

I do that kind of search, by the way, to replace 3 paragraph marks with 2.

In Google Doc open the search box (Ctrl+F), then click on More options icon, check Match using regular expressions checkbox, and search for \n.

You cannot search paragraph marks in Google Documents. But if you'd like to change the line spacing of the document, or add/remove space before or after a paragraph, click the line spacing button on the far-right of the toolbar. (Google Docs support)

Deleting extra blank lines that another author used instead setting the paragraph spacing must be done manually for each paragraph. The OP seems to want (and so do I) a way to do that using Search and Replace so that the identification of each instance that needs changing can be done automatically. I don't know if it will work, but I'm going to try moving the text to MS Word to do the S+R and then moving it back to GDocs. – August Mohr Jan 10 '13 at 21:43
  • @AugustMohr that's exactly right. What I do now is move the data to MS Word and do a find replace there. – Andrew Warner Jun 23 '15 at 19:38
