I have a large Google Slide presentation and needed to make an alternate version of it for another use. To do this, I copied all the slides from version A and pasted them into a new blank version B, electing to Link all the slides initially since not all of them will need to be changed for version B. This way most of the slides will stay in sync with version A.

For reasons I can't explain, my slides in version B are becoming unlinked all of a sudden. One moment they are linked and I can choose to break the link, or if I change the same slide in version A I can choose to update the slide in version B to match version A. And the next moment... no option for unlinking, and they are clearly no longer linked as changes in version A cannot now be updated to reflect in version B.

I don't see any reason for this at all and have no idea what to look for. At a glance it appears that the entire 300+ page presentation version B has become unlinked. Not a single slide appears to still be linked except for a few that I just now re-copy & pasted back into version B.

Does anyone know why this would happen and how to prevent it?

  • Problem seems to have cleared up today after a reboot. Possible that simply re-launching the browser would have fixed it as well, but I never thought to try it. Simply reloading the page however did not fix it. – Jonathan van Clute Nov 3 '18 at 17:48
