I needed to add a bunch of data to our contacts file so I exported all contacts to a CSV file. When I re-imported and clicked to merge duplicates I still had nearly twice as many contacts as before. So I deleted all contacts and imported again. This time the email addresses show as "*" even though when I look at an individual card the email shows correctly. I did not change the headers in the CSV file. It looks like the 'E-mail 1 - Type' is being shown in the email column. Can I change the columns displayed to be Name,Email,City? enter image description here

I did not change the columns. I added missing emails, telephone #'s and cities. I did add a couple of rows for new people. Here is the beginning of the header row enter image description here

  • Google Contacts has more than one CSV export format. Which one did you use? – Rubén May 12 at 15:01

What bunch of data did you need to add? Extra columns? It would also help to see part of the exported and the modified CSV file (anonymized) – user55949 May 13 at 10:22
  • I exported as Google CSV format. – cweedon May 13 at 19:14
  • Jan - see my addition to my original post. I do not see how to add an image to a comment like this. – cweedon May 13 at 19:25
