I have built a Google Sheet with a lot of data. I have also put in a script to sort data automatically, by date, when new information is input. The new information can relate to past, present or future.

I have set up conditional formatting to colour a cell which should have been completed, if the second cell has been left blank.

However, as soon as the date is selected and before the notes are input, the sheet auto sorts but the highlighting is left behind. This means the inputter can't easily find the blanks to complete.

So I need one of two solutions please.

Either to stop the sheet auto sorting until all cells have been completed or for the highlighting to travel with the new cell.

I would be extremely grateful for any help. Please note the data is an internal document and contain information which I am not allowed to share.

  • Hi and welcome. I have also put in a script to sort data automatically, by date, when new information is input ... You didn't include the script in your question, so we can't reproduce the problem that you are having. Please edit your question to include an example of your data layout, your script(s) and a description of how/when the scripts are triggered. Thanks

the data is an internal document and contain information which I am not allowed to share Then create a screenshot OR a copy of the spreadsheet containing "dummy"/non-confidential data. If you don't include some data, then we can't help you.
