I don't watch very much on YouTube, but I do watch late-night shows now and then (mainly Stephen Colbert).

YouTube does an incredibly bad job of deciding where to insert mid-show ads. It appears that YouTube makes zero effort whatsoever to avoid inserting them mid-scene, mid-sentence, even mid-word.

Why not?

Mostly, I'm just mystified. Google is a very large and sophisticated company, and Colbert's show also has a large budget.

Doesn't anyone involved in the making of these products think the ad positioning is bad, probably costing them money or at least goodwill of consumers, and want to do something to improve it?
