If you copy and Ctrl+V-paste it from the terminal to Google Docs, you see:

enter image description here

But you cannot do this with the same code once that it was pasted as plain text in an editor or Google Docs. If you for example paste it at first in an editor, right from the terminal:

enter image description here

And copy that again and Ctrl+V-paste it in Google Docs. You see only the plain text in Google Docs:

<!-- Favorite Icons -->
<link rel="icon" href="/error/img/favicon.ico" type="image/png" />

<style type="text/css">
        .red {
            color:#FF0000;
        }
        .bold {
            font-weight: bold;
        }
</style>
</head>

<body>
    <div id="container">
        <html>
 <head>
  <title>401 Unauthorized</title>
 </head>
 <body>
  <h1>401 Unauthorized</h1>

</html>
    </div>
</body>
</html>

Same thing if you paste the code with Ctrl+Shift+V as plain text in Google Docs, copy that again and Ctrl+V-paste it in Google Docs again, it will stay plain text.

If I save the plain text as file and open it in a browser, it shows HTML:

enter image description here

  • If I save the plain text in a file and open it in the Linux Terminal and copy from there, it gets pasted as plain text.
  • If I open it in Alacritty and copy from there, it gets pasted as HTML. Thus, to get HTML pasted as HTML, and not as the plain text, open it in Alacritty terminal and copy it from there and paste it with Ctrl+V.

Why is that? And perhaps: How? How would I reach that aim without having to open it in Alacritty terminal?
