I have a Google Sheet application (url below) that uses dropdown menus to allow selection of data to display (one line selected from 5000). It works quite well BUT once the file is shared, for some users the drop-down options are not evident. They are restored if the sheet is downloaded into EXCEL, for example, but the reason for using SHEET is to avoid dependency on the user's own choice of spreadsheet application. Particularly sad is the failure of the android app.

What needs to happen to allow SHEET to work fully?

The dropdowns only can be used by editors, not by viewers. Are you given editor access to the users? If so, then change the cells background colors. – Rubén Jul 28 '15 at 12:25
  • Thanks for the pointer (to the lack of pointers!). I'm sharing without making any non-default restrictions but I think what happens is the typical user gets a read-only version until they choose to download. I will explore this more closely. [ Interesting semantic point - is selection of a dropdown "editing" or just fairly active viewing - I control the range of choices I offer to the user, ?] – Dee Gee Jul 29 '15 at 13:06
  • Please consider to add more details to your question like options that you are using (even if they are the default). Screenshots are very helpful and appreciated! Regarding semantics, the dropdowns that your are using are part of the data validation feature. Data validation occurs on individual cell value editing. – Rubén Jul 29 '15 at 17:22
